Under the leadership of the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, a rectors' council convened at Caucasus University, with participation from rectors of accredited higher educational institutions across Georgia.
During the session, attendees deliberated on challenges within the higher education sector, strategies to address them, and outlined plans for advancing university environments. Discussions encompassed pivotal topics such as enhancing Georgia's presence in international exhibitions, granting universities authority to modify questionnaires, augmenting quotas for funded Armenian and Azerbaijani students, introducing three-year bachelor's programs, and optimizing the functions of Horizon-Europe university grant offices. Various pressing matters raised by the rectors were also addressed.
The council operated in a discourse format, resulting in collaborative decisions on several issues.
The meeting was also attended by the First Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth, Aleksandre Tsuladze, and Deputy Nodar Papukashvili.
As part of ongoing higher education reforms, spearheaded by Giorgi Amilakhvari, regular meetings with rectors will be instituted across all accredited public and private universities in Georgia. This approach aims to ensure inclusivity in the reform process and facilitate the timely adoption of effective solutions to higher education challenges.
