The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, is currently on a working visit to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
During this visit, Giorgi Amilakhvari held a working meeting with Zhana Andreasyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia. The discussion revolved around expanding the existing cooperation in education and science, in conjunction with developing mechanisms to support the educational system. Emphasis was placed on the significance of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's visit to Armenia in further strengthening the historical friendship between the two nations.
Among the topics discussed were the establishment of a Georgian Center at Yerevan State University, initiatives aimed at enhancing teacher qualifications and professional development, diverse exchange programs for students, and the organization of joint youth events.
Furthermore, Giorgi Amilakhvari also briefed the esteemed attendees on measures taken to support Armenian-speaking students in Georgia. Notably, starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, funding for Armenian-speaking students enrolled in Georgian language training programs (1+4) has been doubled. This means that instead of 100 students, 200 students will now receive state educational grants annually.
Additionally, discussions centered on enhancing the cooperation in higher education and science, including strengthening the teaching of Georgian and Armenian languages and literature in relevant higher education institutions, and promoting joint scientific projects.
The ministers also explored the formation of working groups to bolster partnership in various educational sectors.
The meeting was attended by Giorgi Sharvashidze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia.
