The President Opened Newly Constructed School in the Village of Shamgona
The President of Georgia and the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia visited newly opened school in the village of Shamgona of Zugdidi region. The village of Shamgona is the only island that is located on the territory, controlled by the Georgian side between the rivers of Enguri and Rukhistskali. Shamgona is bordered with the villages of Sida and Taligoni of Gali region. The old school has been functioning since 1919 but was not appropriate for usage.
Shamgona Public School was constructed by the Education and Science Infrastructure Development Agency of MES. 900,600 GEL was spent for the construction works.
Georgian builders faced real risks during the works as the school is bordered with the occupied territory.
The school is in compliance with modern standards. Rooms are equipped with the modern educational items, gyms are refurbished, IT room is provided with 16 computers. Library as well as the modern scientific lab operates in the school.
In the scope of the program “ALUMNI”, Jimsher Ghurtskaia, who graduated from the school in 1983, provided the school with physics unique lab. Currently, Mr. Ghurtskaia lives in Germany. Teacher of physics of this school will be trained in Germany with the financial support of Jimsher Ghurtskaia in order to share international experience with the schoolchildren. Teacher of mathematics will be giver raised salary by the support of Mr. Gurtskaia.
Currently, 36 teachers teach 223 schoolchildren in this school. The President of Georgia awarded the teacher of physics, Lela Barkalaia with Medal of Honor for her activities.
8th grader Nukri Shonia, who won the competition of MES “Russian Aggression in my Eyes” studies in this school as well. Nukri is refugee from Gali region. The President presented him with the portable computer. 7th grader excellent student, Mariam Shamugia was presented with the computer as well.
