Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, David Bakradze visited Tbilisi Public School №51 and met with the second graders, spoke about the significance of literacy and read Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales in the scope of the project Book Buddy, initiated by MES.
Presentation of the project was held in November, at Tbilisi Public School №1. The Mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava, along with the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini represented the new project to the children. Aim of the project is supporting development of reading, listening and thinking skills among the schoolchildren, and popularization of literacy and reading.
According to the concept of the project, high-graders, students, writers, famous people and other volunteers read literature along with the children of primary classes and afterwards, discuss the material. Similar project is being held in many countries of the world and well-known people are engaged in it.
Similar events will be still held. Many people expressed willingness to take part in the project, among them are public figures, writers and politicians.
