Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia David Bakradze and Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini awarded 96 top contestants of the National School Olympiad with the certificates and cash prizes. Cash prizes were also conferred to the top winning schools according to the number of the successful students at the Olympiad.
The winners were awarded with the cash prizes: 1st place (33 schoolchildren) – 1 000 GEL, 2nd place; 32 schoolchildren - 700 GEL, 3 rd place (31 schoolchildren) – 600 GEL.
1 st place (8 schools) – 5 000 GEL; 2nd place (8 schools) - 4 000 GEL; 3 rd place (8 schools) – 3 000 GEL.
For the first time, in 2011 the first round of the National School Olympiad was held by the Educational Resource Centers themselves. The second and third rounds were organized by National Examinations Center under the Ministry. The second round was held at 91 schools of 65 town and rayon and up to 85 000 schoolchildren participated in it. Up to 1600 schoolchildren who overcame the second round took part in the third round of the Olympiad.
National School Olympiad is held annually in the following subjects: Georgian Language and Literature, Mathematics, Foreign languages, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics. The Olympiad is held in three rounds in Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijanian and Russian languages. Top 10 contestants becomes the member of the national team and take part in the International Olympiad.
Organizing the Olympiads was initiated by the President of Georgia. Encouraging the successful schoolchildren and teachers, enhancing the learning process at schools and supporting the school reforms are the goals of the National Olympiad.
Number of the schoolchildren participating in the National School Olympiad is growing. Georgian national team often wins at International Olympiad as well.
