Process of Teacher certification is underway and is voluntary till 2014. In every July teachers are given opportunity to take a test in corresponding subject and a test in professional skills. Teachers, who successfully pass the tests, will get a surplus to the salary with the amount of 75 GEL.

At the same time, every April, certified teachers are eligible to pass an integrated test in English language and Computer, upon successfully passing this exam, the teachers will get additional surplus to their salaries with the amount of 125 GEL. As a result of the above mentioned exams, 25% of the best teachers will get 1000 GEL per month.

The President of Georgia met those teachers who have passed both tests and got the highest grades. The amount of the salary of these teachers will be 1000 GEL from the next academic year.

The Georgian government constantly takes measures to enhance the teacher professional development, which in its turn contributes to creating of the competitive environment and recruiting new personnel in the system.  In this regard, it is noteworthy that 24 000 teachers have been already registered for the certification exams held in June, 2011.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia implements several programs to encourage the teachers. All mentor teachers get additional 160 GEL to their salaries.  “Teach for Georgia” program is also run in the mountainous regions of Georgia; all teachers who are engaged in this project get a surplus to their salaries with the amount of 500 GEL. Moreover, teachers who are involved in the Program “Georgian as a Second Language” receive additional 1000 GEL along with the salary.
