By the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, a new subject “Traffic Signs and Road Safety” will be introduced at general educational institutions from the next academic year. The textbook has already been developed and 1200 teachers have been trained at the Police Academy. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Giorgi Chakhnashvili and Rector of Police Academy Khatia Dekanoidze awarded certificates to trained teachers.
Police Academy under the Ministry of Internal Affairs will finish training the teachers of the new subject throughout Georgia by September 15. In the scope of the trainings, teachers learn teaching methodology.
The new textbook consists of two parts that cover every topic that is necessary to be familiar with traffic signs and road safety.
The schoolchildren will take auto driver lessons (theoretical) at schools. Those who pass exams for obtaining driving license successfully and have permission of the parents will get temporary, B category driving license at the age of 17. At the age of 18, instead of temporary license, the youngsters will be able to take permanent international driving license.
The subject will be taught in 11th grade. The goal of the introduction of the new subject is to ensure safe traffic on the roads.
