The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkin introduced the main priorities of the Ministry for the new academic year at the joint sitting of the Committees on Education, Science and Culture and on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues.

The main priorities for the new academic year are the following: provision of all socially vulnerable pupils with textbooks; assure of low prices on textbooks; opening of new schools and colleges; improvement of the infrastructure of educational instances; provision of the first grade and best pupils and their teachers with netbooks and personal computers.

According to the new national academic plan, the particular attention shall be attached to study of English language, and in Samtskhe-Javakheti region and in other non-Georgian instances – enhancement of study of Georgian language.

The priorities as well are facilitation of professional training of pedagogues and increase of qualification of resource officers.

The Minister spoke of every single issue and other future activities in exhaustive manner. According to him, the new national curriculum will be implemented from the first to the sixth grades this year, and next year the curriculum will be prepared for the seventh-twelfth grades.

The Minister also answered the questions of the MPs.
