Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Shashkini, pays an official visit to Great Britain. As a part of this visit, the Minister met the Minister of State for Schools, Mr. Nick Gibb , MP.
The ongoing education reforms, current projects and programs have been discussed during the meeting. Minister Dimitri Shashkini introduced the English Language enhancement programs to his colleague, including the “Teach and Learn with Georgia” program. In the scope of this program, this year, around 1500 native English speaking teachers will arrive to Georgia. Government of Great Britain played an important role in implementation of this project, as majority of the volunteer teachers come from this country. Mr. Dimitri Shashkini also highlighted the importance of learning of English language from the very first grade at public schools of Georgia.
Minister of State for Schools, Mr. Nick Gibb discussed the successful experience of Great Britain in terms of parent’s active engagement in the learning process.
The two Ministers also talked about strengthening the mutual collaboration between Georgia and Great Britain in the field of education.
“This meeting proved to be very productive, it will contribute to further enhancing our cooperation, especially, in strengthening of learning English Language and supporting the teachers’ professional development. My colleague also got interested in the Safe School Concept and activities of the resource officers at secondary schools of Georgia. School violence is a problematic issue in Great Britain as well and I believe that, we can share our experience to them”, stated the Minister.
