20 public schools were
affected by natural disaster throughout Georgia. In most cases, the roofs of
the schools were partially or wholly destroyed by strong wind and windows were
broken. This morning, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi
Margvelashvili, visited #1 Public School in village Mukhrani and gathered
information about the damages caused by the wind.
734 pupils are enrolled in #1 Public School in Mukhrani, therefore the building
is rather big. Yesterday’s strong wind partially destroyed the roof of the
school. Despite the fact, the school continued teaching/learning process,
electricity and heating system are operating. The only threat to the school
building might be caused by rain.
Most public schools were damaged in Ozurgeti. 9 public schools were affected
there. Schools in Rustavi, Kaspi, Gori, Kobuleti and Shuakhevi were also
affected by the natural disaster.
According to the Minister’s statement, the government is mobilized to deal with
the disaster effects in due course and to start rehabilitation works.Working
process will be held in two stages. Firstly, necessary measures will be taken
to protect buildings from rain. Damaged windows and electricity will be
restored. Rehabilitation works will start afterwards.
