Several International Educational Researches are being conducted in Georgia
The basic research of Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is conducted at Tbilisi “Komarov” Physics-Mathematical boarding school N199. Today the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze and the director of National Examination Center Maia MiminoShvili inspected the process.
The international program (PISA) aims to evaluate the knowledge and skills gained by 15 year old teenagers at school in three fields: reading, mathematics and natural sciences.
PISA checks the readiness of students to deal with daily challenges by using the knowledge and skills gained at school. 6200 students from 280 schools of Georgia, their parents and teachers will participate in the research. The research is being conducted in Georgian, Azerbaijani and Russian.
Piloting of Progress in an International Reading Literacy Study PIRLS has been finished. 1500 4th grade students from 32 schools of all regions of Georgia, their parents and school directors were involved in the mock exams.
International Reading Literacy Study studies those factors that affect on the achievements of students. It aims to develop reading skills in 9-10 year old (4th grade) children.
First time Georgia participated in this research in 2006. The students showed quite respectful results. In the next cycle of the research, education specialists will have ability to compare the achievements of Georgian Students to each other and see how changes in middle school affected the achievements of students.
The basic research of TIMSS (The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) was conducted. State assessment in mathematics is planned in June.
