The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze launched at Georgian Technical University a double degree Georgian-German bachelor program in logistics. The Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany in Georgia Bettina Kadenbach, The Rector of Georgian Technical University Archul Prangishvili, The President of TH Wildau, professor Laszlo Ungvari, Head of DAAD Tbilisi office Martin Praxenthaler and other invitees attended the event.

The program represents the first European quality higher education in logistics in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Bachelor's degree consists of logistics, business administration, information technologies and economic grounds and includes 37 different courses of logistics (for example: road and rail logistics, shipping, port logistics, transportation, cargo handling, warehousing systems, telemetric, ERP and so on). From the third semester teaching will continue in German language and it will be completely led by professors and teachers from German consortium. In the framework of the program, it is planned to establish a laboratory of SAP logistics, a library, a video-conference hall, to introduce E-Learning Module and other activities.

An integral part of the syllabus is one-year studying in Germany. Starting from the seventh semester, the students will continue their studies at German partner universities. The eighth semester will be entirely dedicated to practice and to diploma thesis work in German companies. During the practice they will be introduced to the logistics infrastructure of German companies, their system solutions, the latest technologies and efficient work processes. Those students, who successfully complete studying in Germany, will get Wildau university degree specializing in Bachelor of Engineering in Logistics (Bachelor of Engineering in Logistics).

The uniqueness of the program works is that it is focused on practice and meets the requirements of local and international logistics markets.

For development of logistics and transport sectors in Georgia and turning the country into regional logistics hub, implementation bachelor's program in logistics is of huge importance. Local and international companies have expressed great interest in the program. More than 20 memorandums have been signed, which includes an active practical involvement of students in the projects with further prospect of employment.

The German consortium leader is Wildau Technical University of Applied Sciences (TH Wildau). The other two members are Brandenburg and Flensburg universities of Applied Sciences. The program included 8 semesters and The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is funding it. This is the first engineering program in the post-Soviet space, which has been funded by the DAAD.
