Prime Minister of Georgia - Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia – Aleksandre Jejelava and other members of the government, attended the closing ceremony of the International Chemistry Olympiad and awarded various winners with the bronze, silver and bronze medals respectively.
It is important to note, that for the first time in the history International Olympiad, a student of 11th grade of Komarov Physics and Mathematics # 199 Public School - Saba Tavdgiridze won a bronze medal.
Moreover, the International Chemistry Olympiad was held for the first time in Georgia. The Olympics 2016, was officially opened on July 23, which consisted of 700 participants from more than 75 countries. Besides students, there were mentors, teachers, and parents who visited Georgia during the Olympiad, giving the world of possibility to Georgia to showcase its culture and rich historical heritage.
This is an unprecedented case in the history of the Olympics, when Georgia is hosting an event of such scale. This kind of circumstances are very rare, as countries are waiting for decades to host the event, since the host countries for the consecutive Olympiads are already known until 2021.
To ensure the high level of security and smooth execution of the Olympiad, the Ministry of Education and Science is actively cooperation with the representatives of healthcare, economy, as well as with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Georgian National Tourism Administration.
