The new 2016-2017 academic year has begun at Sokhumi State University. The Minister of Education and Science – Aleksandre Jejelava, congratulated this day to the students, their parents, the faculty and lecturers and wished them success in their future endeavours. The Minister expressed his hope that the University will soon become a bridge of friendship between Sokhumi and the rest of Georgia and will forsake the name refugee status soon. Aleksandre Jejelava gave advice to students on how to become more successful and self-actualized.
600 freshmen students will study on seven faculties at the University of Sokhumi this year. The university which has almost 3,000 students, holds a priority for such fields such as; Abkhaziology, Georgian studies, archeology, human, batural and socio-political sciences, economics, law, and many more. At the same time, it is important to mention the involvement of European Union in many important projects, in conjunction with a proper understanding of the Bologna process, its implementation and the consistent execution of reforms, which in turn will bring the intrernational recognition to the Sokhumi State University.
