The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, and Microsoft signed a memorandum of understanding, which entails the implementation of Wi-Fi practices on school premises in Georgia.

The cooperation seeks out to support the implementation of the Wi-Fi infrastructure in Georgian schools. Microsoft will also support the teachers and school leaders with the educational content, educational material and expertise, in order to support the utilization of internet and modern technology in the educational process.

Before signing the memorandum, a meeting was held with the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia – Aleksandre Jejelava, and the Central and Eastern Europe General Manager of Microsoft – Michael Collagher, the Global Director of Microsoft Connectivity Alexander Toledo Late, and the Manager of Microsoft Georgia – Nikoloz Doborjginidze.

During the initial stage of 2016-2017 academic year, Microsoft will implement Wi-Fi technologies in 32 schools of big and small cities of Georgia. The long-term strategic priority is to provide internet throughout Georgia to all of the educational society. Many schools have internet, but do not have Wi-Fi at their schools.

Owing to this project, the teachers and students will be able to connect to the internet at school, thus removing barriers to access to knowledge. The agreement also entails the Office 365 Cloud Service, which will help the students and teachers to implement the educational practice, which will help to develop skills, which is needed in the 21^st century workplace.

Microsoft and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has been cooperation for seven years, they conduct trainings and conferences for the teachers, organize seminars and consultations on the technology implementation strategies. The cooperation also entails large-scale initiatives, such as equipping all the students of first grade with computers, the modernization of school computers with the latest operation system and office software, which will help the learning environment.
