For the first time in the history of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University doctoral thesis was defended by blind candidate. Guranda Jamatashvili is English language teacher at N 202 School for Blind and consequently is well aware of the problems that blind children face in the course of study. The will to solve these problems led her to the doctoral program of the Ministry of Education. 

While working on the theses Guranda actively participated in international and local scientific seminars, conferences and public meeting. On her initiative Georgian and foreign nongovernmental organizations and groups of people interested in issues of education of blind people were invited to the University. With participation and consultation of invited experts teachers’ education program for teaching blind children is being elaborated at TSU Department of Educational Sciences.
