Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Discovery of Bacteriophages, the International Conference of Bacteriophages was held by co-organization of Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virusology (Tbilisi, Georgia) in the Pasteur Institute (Paris, France), which was attended by approximately 250 delegates from 29 countries. The event was opened by the President of the Pasteur Institute - Christian Bréchot and the Director of Eliava Institute - Mzia Kutateladze. The importance of priceless experience and capabilities of the Georgian scholars and doctors have been proved once again with the reports presented by the Georgian scientists within the framework of the Conference.
The aim of the event was a broad overview of the main directions of bacteriophage research, discussion of modern discoveries on paghe - bacterial cell interaction mechanisms, discussion of importance and capabilities of use of bacteriophage ecology, evolutionary aspects, therapeutic, industrial and biotechnological use of phages.
The second important event of celebration of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of phages will be held in Tbilisi on June 26-29, through co-organization with Giorgi Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virusology, the Pasteur Institute and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
