The Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Aleksandre Jejelava introduced the news to journalists, which has already been carried out in the system and will soon be implemented. At the meeting held in question-answer mode, the Minister paid attention to the general and vocational education that the new projects in this direction will significantly increase the quality in the near future.

In terms of general education, the Minister widely spoke about the new project "Our School 20-20", which will be implemented in the short and medium-term perspective, and the implementation of which will put all schools in equal conditions and by 2020, the progress will be univocal.

Along with school infrastructure and school manuals, the Minister emphasized the importance of the role of teacher and that many activities are being carried out in order to increase their qualification. In particular, if over 40,000 teachers passed training last year, during several months of 2017, their number has reached 30 thousand. In this regard, the Minister emphasized the involvement of the Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia, which is supported by teachers of natural sciences and school directors. Consequently, the number of teachers going to the exams, which have more motivation for development, has increased.

The Ministry offers important innovations to beginning teachers. Since the teachers in schools are being hired by contest, where a special importance is given to the experience, which the beginning teachers do not have, the Minister admitted that the young people who will successfully finish the pedagogical faculty, will have the guaranteed hours especially in schools of villages and national minorities. In particular, they will give lessons together with school teachers.

The Ministry will continue to assist the Bachelor program "1 + 4" of bilingual young people who work as assisting teachers in national minority schools. 53 bilingual assistant teachers will be working in non-Georgian language schools in 2017-2018.

The national curriculum will be changed at the middle level. In particular, the content of programs will be discharged, more emphasis will be made on practical activities and project teaching. There will be more possibilities for transfer of formal lessons into non-lesson space (excursions in museums, surveys on the field); As for school textbooks, they will be evaluated by more and various criteria. It is important that the society will first be involved in its assessment - the textbooks presented by the authors will be posted on the website of the Ministry of Education and it will be available to all interested people who will be able to offer their comments, recommendations and assessments to the Ministry.

In order to make the educational process more active and interesting, from the new academic year, the Ministry at the initial stage starts to implement table games in pilot mode at schools having small contingent, which develops both a sense of teamwork, as well increases interest and motivation in respect of education. In addition, already implemented free lessons will be doubled, as well as more children will rest in winter and summer camps.

Within the framework of the excursion program, a unified space will be created about excursion places, which, on the one hand, will enable teachers to plan time more productively and encourage service providers on the other. It is important that thematic excursions for pupils at schools having small contingent will be fully funded.

Lessons of remote Georgian language will be increased and the network of countries will be expanded for Georgians living abroad. At this stage, 500 lessons were held in 21 countries, with 200 children and 35 teachers involved. Lessons are held in Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Spain etc.

The Minister also spoke about the rehabilitation of schools and the construction of new schools with new technologies. He also underlined the introduction of crafts, healthy lifestyle and healthy nutrition in schools. In particular, schools are prohibited to sell (chips, so called crackers, jellibones), sweets, chocolates, carbonated drinks (except gas mineral water). Within the framework of healthy lifestyle campaign, by recommendation of the Doctors of Nutrition Sciences and based on the European Experience, the Ministry will carry out a pilot project at several major schools in Tbilisi, according to which the pupils will be given apple for free once a week.

In terms of professional education, Aleksandre Jejelava talked about the achievements of dual education, international partners and new legislative amendments that will increase the interest of young people in terms of professional education. In particular, a nine-year-old pupil who will enter the vocational college will not only acquire only a profession, he will also be able to obtain a School Diploma, which will allow him to continue his studies at higher education.

In terms of professional education, the most important novelty is that the state will finance private professional colleges. In addition, the professional skills will be recognized.
