National Evaluation in Georgian Language and Literature
9th graders’ knowledge and abilities in Georgian language and literature were developed according to the National evaluation, carried out in public schools of Georgia. The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, together with the invited experts and the teachers attended the presentation of the results of the National evaluation. The research was carried out by the National Curriculum and Assessment Center among more than 5,000 9th graders throughout the whole Georgia.
The National evaluation is the full-scale research. The goal of this research is to evaluate the quality of general education in the country. The results of the research are very important in order to advance the National curriculum; to evaluate the progress of the schoolchildren in the country; to prepare the recommendations for the schoolchildren, the teachers, the school principals as well as the parents, authors of the textbooks, politicians, decision makers and the educational experts.
The tests are used in the National evaluation to define the results of all participants and to make the conclusions in the subject circumstances throughout the country.
The subject matter teachers as well as the school principals and the schoolchildren are involved in the National evaluation process.
5,385 9th graders of 231 public schools, the principals of these schools and the teachers of Georgian Language and Literature took participation in the National evaluation.
The experts of the National Curriculum and Assessment Center and 61 subject matter experts analyzed the results of the National evaluation.
According to the psychometric analyzes of the data, more than 16% of the schoolchildren showed the high level of achievement. This index means the good result according to the international standard. The schoolchildren from Tbilisi, Kakheti and Imereti showed the best results among the regions. The results of the 9th graders are much better in the large cities than in the other cities of Georgia. Following cities are especially distinguishable: Kutaisi, Tbilisi, Telavi and Rustavi.
