The Acting Minister of Education and Science of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli spoke about the main goals of the education system at the united session of Education, Science, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Health Care and Social Issues.
During his address, Mikheil Chkhenkeli stated, that the major priority of general education is the universal access to high quality education. Special emphasis will be made on the modernization of knowledge, whilst newly developed programs will help students in this direction. Additionally, the project – Eureka. based on the development of critical thinking, will encompass Georgia in its entirety, with the participation of leading scholars and members of Academia, giving simplified lectures to the students.
The contract has already been signed with the German Research Center of Experimental Laboratory – Julich, where Georgian students will be able to visit the unique experimental laboratory and further enhance their STEM knowledge. Negotiations with the management of Microsoft is already underway, regarding the installation of Minecraft Educational course at Georgian schools. The program is currently being implemented and after passing the pilot mode, the final version will be distributed to all schools across Georgia.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli emphasized that fundamental reforms will start from the new academic year. At the primary level, new national curriculum will be implemented, where the students will be able to learn with the newly updated and improved textbooks.
According to the minister, teachers will be able to improve their qualification continuously. During the summer season, special trainings will be conducted for the development of practical and theoretical skills in compliance with the modern pedagogical methods. As for the inclusive education, changes have already been prepared, according to which, special teachers will now officially acquire the teachers certified status from September, 2018.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the introduction of Finnish education elements in the national education model in general education. The Ministry closely cooperates with the Finnish colleagues in this direction.
