The Acting Minister of Education and Science of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli has introduced the novelties planned in higher education to the members of Parliament at the joint committee session.
According to Mikheil Chkhenkeli, improving the quality of the higher education is of paramount priority. Consequently, the process of unscheduled monitoring will continue, and only the institutions with excellent academic standards will receive the authorization. Invited European experts will play a vital role in this process, besides the Georgian side.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli emphasized the new model of funding universitieties, in conjunction with underlining the importance of actively cooperating with the World Bank, which will significantly facilitate the development of academic, educational and scientific infrastructure of Georgian universities.
Additionally, the Acting Minister highlighted the implementation of distance learning initiative, that implies the use of foreign professors in Georgian universities, as well as inviting Georgian professors who currently live and work abroad to read lectures remotely.
Furthermore, due to the international cooperation, as the Minister noted, important programs of San Diego State University are successfully being implemented at three state universities of Georgia.
Moreover, Mikheil Chkhenkeli also talked about the innovations planned for the youth. Thematic camps will be launched, where young people will be able to receive new knowledge and experience. In 2018, owing to the state funding, more than 10 thousand young students will be able to rest at the local as well as foreign camps and seasonal schools. Which in turn, will create a wonderful opportunity for the development of youth diplomacy.
