Presentation of the catalog - "Alphabet as History" dedicated to the history of Georgian alphabet and its manuscript was held at the Georgian Art Palace.
Mikheil Batiashvili – the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with the deputy Minister - Mikheil Giorgadze, the Director of Georgian Art Palace - Giorgi Kalandia and the Director of Georgian National Library - Medea Metreveli attended the presentation.
The Georgian-English Catalog was published with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and Georgian National Book Center. The catalog combines unique manuscripts, printed books, rarities and works of contemporary Georgian artists. The book was published at the Klingspor Museum in Offenbach, within the scope of –“Tbilisi in My Thoughts” exhibition, dedicated to showcasing Georgia as the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018.
Many of the samples featured in the catalog are published for the very first time. Initially it was considered as an exhibition guide, however, it soon became an illustrated scientific work of Georgian alphabet and the Georgian culture overall.
Mikheil Batiashvili emphasized the importance of participating at the Frankfurt Book Fair. He noted that numerous literary or cultural events planned within the book market are the best way to represent Georgia.
"The catalog valiantly demonstrates the wealth of Georgian alphabet, which is so dear to us – Georgians, and it will undoubtedly further engage the reader with the Georgian culture”. – said Mikheil Batiashvili. Moreover, the Minister thanked Giorgi Kalandia, and each Museum employee for their immense effort they have put into creating the catalog.
This year, Georgia holds the status of the Guest of Honour at Frankfurt Book Fair, in which, a number of important literary and cultural events are planned. The exhibition dedicated to the history of the Georgian manuscript at the Klingspor Museum in Offenbach will be open in October.
