Mikheil Batiashvili - the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia met with the members of Judo Youth Team at the Ministry. The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister - Mikheil Giorgadze and Shalva Gogoladze.
The Minister congratulated judokas on their achieved success at the European Championship and promised full support from the Ministry. At the meeting, the parties discussed the preparation of the team for the World Youth Championship. This year, the World Championship will be hosted in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas in October.
The Georgian national team headed by the coach - Lasha Gujejiani, has won nine medals at the European Championship held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Out of nine medals obtained by the Georgian judokas three of them are of superior standard. Luka Maisuradze, Onis Sanebulidze (-100kg) and Gela Zaalishvili (+100kg) at 81 kg weight category, became the proud owners of gold medals and thus the European champions. Silver medals were won by Tato Grigalashvili (-81kg) and Eter Liparteliani (-57kg). Bronze medals were awarded to Jaba Papinashvili (-60 kg), Bagrat Niniashvili (-66kg), Mariam Chanturia (-70kg) and Sophio Somkhishvili (+78kg).
It is noteworthy, that the Georgian finale was held amongst the 81-kg weight category. Luka Maisuradze, silver medalist of last year's European Championship, defeated the bronze medalist Tato Grigalashvili at the European Championship.
