In order to increase the level of literacy, the Memorandum of Cooperation was formed between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the National Library of Georgia, which was signed by the Minister - Mikheil Batiashvili and Director of the Library - Giorgi Kekelidze.
As the parties stated after the signing ceremony, it is impossible to get quality education and become a free individual with the ability of critical thinking, without modern, electronic communications and information technologies. Consequently, electronic access to books, periodical editions, cartographic materials, dissertations, archives, and other necessary material resources protected by the National Library is essential for increasing public awareness and attracting more young people.
Cooperation between the Parties includes coordination between the Ministry and the National Library, as well as the exchange of information in order to create a national digital library. Besides, the creation of digital books, periodical editions, cartographic publications, dissertations and summaries, archival documents, newspaper and magazine articles, will provide unlimited access to all interested individuals at any time.
The memorandum comes into force from the moment of signing, but the parties may also have the right to sign up additional agreements as they please.
