The deputy Minister of
Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Irina Abuladze awarded Jemal Saghinadze
with status as "Son of the Mountains" in collaboration with the UNDP
and the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia,
organized at the Didube Exhibition.
“Mr. Jemali has been working
for more than 25 years in the high mountainous region of Georgia. His
contribution to popularization of chess in the region is very large and his
merit is priceless. He is a mathematician by profession and has been a champion
of the region continuously for 34 years. Mr. Jemalil prepares about 50 pupils
during the year and manages to cheer everyone up. Chess is a style of thinking
and not only sport and I am very happy that we can express a long gratitude
towards Mr. Jemal here, today. "said Irina Abuladze.
Within the scope of the
event, people of various professions in the mountain were awarded with the
symbolic status of the "Sons of the Mountains".
In 2002, the UN General Assembly called on the
international community to mark the International Day of the Mountain on
December 11, this day in was celebrated in Georgia for the first time this
year.
