The
budget for the infrastructural projects was tripled in 2019 – said Mikheil
Batiashvili, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia
together with Deputy Minister Natia Zedginidze and Director of Municipal
Development Fund - Giorgi Shengelia during a working meeting.
The Ministry of Education together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and
other partner government entities worked out a systemic approach to study the
existing infrastructure problems and tailor their needs according to government
priorities. This approach is the best way to solve the much needed infrastructure
problems in schools across the country.
According to the Minister, the
renovation works for more than 58 schools have been completed at this stage,
which was fully funded by the Millennium Challenge Fund (MCC).
According to him, 8 new public schools
will be built in 2019 according to the modern, European standards. New schools
will cover the territory of Tbilisi, as well as the regions, namely the regions
of Terjola, Tkibuli and Kaspi public schools. Municipal Development Fund of
Georgia (MDF) will fund additional 27 new public schools in the regions.
An
additional 82 public schools will be rehabilitated with the funding received
from the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency (ESIDA)
for the Public Schools of Zestafoni N1, Ozurgeti N1, and Tbilisi N214.
In the spring of 2019, 49 public schools will be fully modernized, whereas 100
public schools are set out to be fully renovated for Autumn 2019. 31 public
schools will be partly renewed.
According to Deputy Minister, Natia Zedginidze, special attention is paid
to the public schools in the regions of Georgia. This year the construction of
9 new public schools will be completed, namely schools in: Tkibuli N7, village
Mukhura, Marneuli N1, Upper Kachreti, Tsalenjikha village Etseri, Tbilisi N2,
Khashuri village Flevi, village Shromiubani of Lanchkhuti municipality and
Mukhura village of Mestia municipality.
In 2019, 80 million GEL will be
allocated for the construction and rehabilitation of general educational
institutions.
