In Surami, National Monument Protection Agency will implement the full-scale rehabilitation of the house museum of the Ukrainian poet and writer Lesia Ukrainka in cooperation with Municipal Development Fund and local self-government.

The initiative of the restoration of museum belongs to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia, Yohor Dolhov, who will be actively involved in the rehabilitation process.

On January 31, the Deputy Ministers of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia Mikheil Giorgadze and Levan Kharatishvili hosted the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia Yohor Dolhov and Director of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia Nikoloz Antidze at the Ministry. The meeting focused the details for the renovation, as well as discussing the action plan on pursuing the deed.

In 2019, the Municipal Development Fund will fund physical works on the basis of the design documentation prepared by the Agency. The rehabilitation process also includes the construction of the house museum with the constructive reinforcement and its interior arrangement. The house-museum’s yard will be arranged infrastructurally. The local municipality will provide the preparatory stage of rehabilitation process, which is reflected in arrangement of the building site and museum exhibits in the protected area.

Proposal documentation will be completed by the end of 2019. With the financing of the Municipal Development Fund, the rehabilitation process will begin in summer and will last till the end of 2020.

The memorial museum of Lesia Ukrainka is located in the town of Surami in the Khashuri municipality, in the house of XIX century belonging to Nikoloz Abazadze, a well known ethnographer. The museum hosts a wide arrange of creativity materials including: poet's collections, manuscripts, different kinds of documents, samples of fine art, numismatic, photo and ethnographic material. The initiator of the museum was Giorgi Leonidze.
