The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Batiashvili met with the winners of the International Subject Olympiads and with their respsective teachers. The Minister extended his immense gratitude for their achievements and wished them success in the future.
“This year has been the most remarkable one for our students who participated at International Olympiads, this year, they have acquired 17 medals and historically speaking, this has never happened in our country. I think this is a tribute to our talented children as well as their teachers. We are indeed very proud that Georgia has so many talented children. This is a great success for our country! Additionally, the building of an educational city in Dighomi, will in itself, help them achieve even more” – said Mikheil Batiashvili during a meeting with the winning students.
This year, the Ministry introduced student teams to the World Olympiads in five disciplines - Math IMO 2019 (Bath, United Kingdom), Informatics IOI 2019 (Baku, Azerbaijan), Physics IPhO 2019 (Telaviv, Israel), Chemistry, 51st International Olympiad (Paris, France) ) And Biology IPhO 2019 (Tel Aviv, Israel). Taking five Olympiads into consideration, our students received 1 gold, 1 silver, 15 bronze medals respectively.
Is it particularly noteworthy to mention the performance of a Komarov School student - Nikoloz Birkadze, who competed in two disciplines this year and won a gold medal for informatics, and a silver for mathematics. Besides this great victory, Nikoloz Birkadze was inducted into the International IT Olympics Hall of Fame this year. The holders of this honorary title are the students who have won 2 gold medals at the International Informatics Olympiad. Two bronze medals (Informatics and Mathematics) were won by another student of KOmraov - Teimuraz Toloraia.
It is noteworthy that during the last three years the results of Georgian pupils at the International Olympiads have significantly increased. In accordance with the awards, the students were awarded with the corresponding monetary prizes: Gold – GEL 3000, Silver – GEL 2000, Bronze – GEL 1000 and 700 GEL for the honorary diplomas.
