The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava awarded diplomas to 62 successful graduates of Spektri College of International Vocational Education (BTEC). The event was also attended by representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, the Millennium Challenge Account and the Embassy of the United States of America.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli addressed the audience and thanked all those involved in the implementation of the international vocational programs, authorized by the British International Education Organization (BTEC). The Minister noted that this is the first time that diplomas have been issued at Georgian Vocational College with internationally recognized standard.

“Today a highly significant and, perhaps, historic event was held at Spektri College, where 62 graduates, for the first time in Georgia, were awarded with an international diploma in vocational education. I would like to congratulate each of them on receiving a diploma recognized in 150 countries around the world. In general, vocational education is our top priority as it is directly related to the employment of the local population and our graduates with international diplomas will be able to earn decent jobs both in Georgia and abroad. The uniqueness of these vocational programs is that they were developed on the basis of British programs and were funded by the United States Millennium Challenge Account. This is a good example of how we can build powerful programs with the help of our strategic partners whose graduates are truly competitive on the world stage.” said Mikhail Chkhenkeli.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted that the involvement of the private sector is paramount for the development of vocational education, as it is directly linked to the training of qualified staff, employment and the development of Georgian economy.

Graduates of the Spektri Vocational College, after completing their respective professions, are qualified in four different specialties: welding, electricity, air conditioning and water supply systems. The BTEC diploma is recognized by the International Professional Standard in 150 countries.

With the funding of the Millennium Challenge Account, Spektri College, in conjunction with the New Wave College, has developed new vocational education programs authorized by the British International Education Organization. Since the fall of 2017, both colleges have been teaching vocational education in accordance with the British Council's International Standards.
