Georgian students returned from the 16th International Zhautikov Olympiad in Almaty with another victory and unprecedented results.

The event was held on January 8-12, 2020 and was attended by 600 students from 84 teams from 21 countries. Teams from Komarov, Tbilisi Public school N199, Vekua's, Public school N42 and Kutaisi Razmadze's 41 Physics and Mathematics School participated in the Olympiad. Georgian students won 16 medals (3 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze). 13 of the 16 medals (3 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze) were awarded to the Komarovians.

Gold medals were awarded to: Teimuraz Toloraia - Absolute First Place (Mathematics-Komarov), Nikoloz Birkadze (Mathematics-Komarov) and Anna Onoprishvili (Mathematics-Komarov).

It is especially gratifying that our teachers - Lela Mamulashvili (Mathematics - Vekua) and Mikheil Sokhashvili (Physics - Komarov) took the first place among the coaches competition as well. Vakhtang Shekishvili (Informatics - Razmadze), Luka Khizanishvili (Physics - Vekua) and Teimuraz Kalatozi (Physics - Komarov) seized the third place.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia will provide Georgian teams with all the necessary materials and financial funding in order to participate at International Olympiads.

It is important to note that the exact and natural sciences competitions are held several times a year in different countries of the world.

Additionally, It is noteworthy that in recent years the achievements of Georgian students in both national and international Olympiads have increased drastically.

Development of accurate and natural sciences is one of the priorities of our country, accordingly, strengthening the fields of physics and mathematics, equipping them with modern equipment and respective laboratories increases the students’ motivation and encourages their interest in science.
