In the framework of the President’s initiative about replacing physical fitness lessons with sports classes, final match in basketball among 7^th and 8^th graders was held in Tbilisi Public School №51 in order to identify winners of the basic level. Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini took participation in the competition.

MES, together with the Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport began to implement the project of replacing physical fitness lessons with sports classes in the third trimester of 2009-2010 academic years. 50 pilot schools have been selected at the first level. Sports lessons will be introduced in all schools from September.

In the scope of the reform, physical fitness lessons were replaced with basketball and volleyball classes of the basic and secondary levels in Public School №51. School competitions were held on both levels and the winners were identified as well. These winners will represent Public School №51 in the competitions throughout Tbilisi and Georgia. Introducing of gymnastics and karate is planned in the next academic year.

2254 school children study in Tbilisi Public School №51. School is actively involved in subject Olympiads. 17 candidates of medals study in this school. 6 of them are candidates of golden medals and 11candidates of silver medals.
