Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) celebrates “Play Safe on Play True Day 2020” with the international sports community. Since April 2014, WADA and the anti-doping community worldwide have celebrated ‘Play True Day’ -- a day that is dedicated to Clean Sport and is intended to raise awareness among athletes, the sporting public and others about the importance of protecting Clean Sport.
This year, given the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having around the globe, WADA seized the opportunity to engage the global anti-doping community – and all stakeholders in the fight to protect Clean Sport – in solidarity around the theme Play Safe on Play True Day 2020, asking them to participate in a digital and social media campaign by sharing what they are doing and why to curb the spread of the virus.
The campaign participants, using various branded frames, designed by WADA http://www.facebook.com/profilepicframes/?selected_overlay_id=218592019479037, in conjunction with using the appropriate hashtags, should share a photo or a video on social media, explaining their reason to join the “Play Safe on a Fair Play Day" campaign. By engaging in social activity, individuals will at the same time share their experiences of what measures are being taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus, condemn the use of doping by athletes, and support the right of athletes to compete in a clean, honest and fair environment.
Georgia is also joining the initiative of the World Anti-Doping Agency - "Play Safe on Play True Day 2020". The National Anti-Doping Agency calls on professional and amateur athletes, in addition to following the rules of fair play, to follow the recommendations of the Georgian government and continue training at home.
It is noteworthy that in recent years, our country has taken important steps to fight the use of doping in sports. The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, together with the Georgian National Anti-Doping Agency, is actively involved in the fight against doping. Georgia is currently chairing the Eastern European Regional Anti-Doping Organization.
