The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia expresses condolences over the death of Rezo Esadze, a great Georgian film director, screenwriter, actor and artist. A special sympathy extends to the friends and family of Mr. Esadze.
Rezo Esadze was an Honored Art figure of Georgia, a Knight of the Order of Merit, a laureate of the Shota Rustaveli Prize, a recipient of the Republican and International Festivals Prize, the Order of Honor of the International Catalogs of Cambridge and Washington, and a member of the Georgian Artists and Cinematographers Union.
He has made 11 films: "Nylon Christmas Tree", "Mill in the suburbs", "Falling in love at first sight", "Ceiling or unfinished film material", "Wedding gift", "Tskipurtebi", "Every Saturday", "Stopwatch" "Four Sheets", Phro" and "Once".
He has played a number of major and episodic roles in the Georgian cinema.
Rezo Esadze's personal exhibitions have been hosted by Tbilisi, Munich, Geneva and Tel Aviv at different times. His works are kept in private and museum collections. He has been teaching since 1975. The first collection of his poems was published in 2001.
In 2019, on the occasion of Rezo Esadze's 85th anniversary, an honorary star named after him was unveiled.
