The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli attended a presentation, held by the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, and addressed the public.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Today all of us, as part of the Ministry, will attend the presentation of the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, an establishment in charge of overseeing truly enormous work of importance for our country. Protecting our culture, our historical heritage, is the duty of each of us, because it is the cornerstone of our cultural identity. The cultural heritage of Georgia is our main treasure. It clearly shows that Georgia is not only a part of Europe, but also a culture that contributes greatly to creation of true European values. The entire world got to know the cultural heritage and rediscovered Georgia as a unique country with a unique history and rich roots. The hard work that goes into caring for our historic monuments is, of course, to the credit of each employee of the agency and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The Minister expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Cartu Foundation for their special contribution to the protection of cultural heritage monuments. He said projects of this scale and quality could not have been implemented without the charity of this foundation.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli singled out the projects implemented by the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, which are of educational importance. He noted that the Ministry will expand projects that provide students with a relationship with the monument from an early age and thus study the richest history of Georgia. Moreover, the minister spoke about the projects, which are being implemented in partnership with foreign scientists.
In his speech, the Minister once again emphasized the importance of modern technologies in today’s world. Harnessing the powers of digital world, the National Agency for Cultural Heritage uses these technologies to showcase Georgian treasures online.
