Georgian students will compete in the 31st International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2020). This year the Olympics will be held in Japan and students from 80 countries will participate, however, due to the ongoing pandemic caused by COVID-19, theoretical and practical tours of the Olympics for Georgian students will be held remotely.
Georgian national team is composed of students who passed to the third round of the National Olympiad this year. The team members passed two additional qualifying rounds, and the composition of the team and reserve was determined by the sum of points accumulated in both rounds.
Qualifying rounds started on August 11 at 10.00 AM Tbilisi time and will continue until August 12. Georgian students from Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Research Foundation will take part in the mentioned tours, where the examination room was arranged in accordance with the requirements of the IBO-2020 Organizing Committee and equipped with computer equipment and surveillance cameras. Additionally, all requirements are met to ensure the safety and health of the participants.
Although the Olympiad is held remotely, it includes all the activities of the experimental tour, such as jury sessions, voting, reviewing, approving, and task translations.
Georgia has been participating in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) since 2011. The results of the Olympics will be posted on the IBO official website on August 24.
