Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs David Namgalauri met with the finalists of the school children football competition “School Ball” and awarded two distinguished bombardiers – Dimitri Tutberidze (member of the team of Zugdidi Public School №4) and George Kobuladze (member of the team of Bolnisi Public School №1) with portable computers and books. Other members of both teams were presented with the gifts as well.
School children football competition “School Ball” is being held for the fourth time throughout the whole country. This year, the competition began on May 7. By tradition, it finished in Batumi, on June 28. 1,300 schools of 73 regions of Georgia and around 13,000 school children participated in the competition. The selection rounds were held in three levels. 16 teams (5 from Tbilisi and one from each region) participated in the third – final round. Teams of Zugdidi Public School №4 and Bolnisi Public School №1 competed in the final round. Team of Zugdidi Public School №4 won the competition for the second time. The score was 3:0. The winner team will leave for Turkey to participate in an international tournament.
The goal of the “School Ball” is to make football more popular and develop healthy way of life. MES, Georgian Football Federation, Ministry of Sport of Georgia and Georgian Association of the Yard Football organized the competition.
Champion of Georgia, team of Public School of Tsalendgikha region, Lia Village took the first place in International Tournament, Held in Turkey in 2009. Team of Ambrolauri Public School №1 took the third place in International Tournament in Turkey, in 2008. In 2007, football team of Zugdidi Public School №1 took the second place in Costa Brava Cup Euro Tournament in Spain. Footballer, Tsotne Samushia was recognized as bombardier of the tournament.
