The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is fully prepared for the start of the new academic year and one of its most important tasks is to provide the students with an overabundance of educational resources.
Additionally, to avoid the spread of COVID-19 at schools, the Ministry will fully equip public schools with protective face masks, remote, non-contact thermometers, anti-bacterial and surface disinfectants. The process has started and by the end of the new school year all public schools will be equipped with the above-mentioned sanitary-hygienic equipment.
Moreover, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia will provide free textbooks to all public-school students under the “Student and Teacher Guidance Program”.
Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister, together with Davit Partsvania, Head of LEPL Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency, personally got acquainted with the process of textbook printing, which will be provided to public school students completely free of charge, for the 2020-2021 academic year. The delivery of textbooks is uninterrupted throughout Georgia.
With the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, LEPL Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency, has already purchased 3 732 020 units of textbooks (GEL 8,487,114) for the Georgian (1st-7th Grade, 9th-12th Grade) and non-Georgian sectors (1st-6th Grade). Additionally, 874,850 certified textbooks (GEL 2,904,341) have been purchased for the elementary level (7th-8th Grade). In order to maximize the savings from the state budget, the necessary textbooks were procured through a consolidated tender.
Under the terms of the agreement, the delivery of textbooks for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year is in an active phase and all public schools will be provided with books before the start of the school year.
“The Student and Teacher Guidance” Program has been successfully implemented since 2013 and aims to ensure full access to full general education and educational resources.
