Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini visited the school children of Buckswood summer school. In the framework of English Language Learning Strengthening Program, 130 school children are improving their English language knowledge, participating in cultural activities and having a rest.
MES implements the project English Language Summer Schools in Georgia and English Language Summer Schools in the United Kingdom for three groups from 22 June until 25 August, 2010.
The program is being held for the second year. It is designed to increase competitiveness of the graduates of Georgian schools in an international market as well as support their integration, encourage English language teaching and learning, improve English language knowledge and advance teachers’ qualification and motivation.
1,200 school children of general educational institutions are involved in the program. They were selected according to the results of subject Olympiad, different educational competitions and basic knowledge of English language. The school children are the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders. They are distributed in three bases – Tskneti, Bakuriani and Tskaltubo. Foreign expert from the United Kingdom manages all three bases. Besides, one chief teacher, 9 English language teachers and 9 group leaders work in each base. The duration is 21 days.
108 best school children of summer school will be selected on the basis of the assessment of course directors, teachers and the group leaders among 1,200 participants. They will leave for the United Kingdom for two weeks in order to study at English Language Summer School.
After graduation, all participants will receive the certificates approved by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and the summer school organizers.
