The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli participated in the online award ceremony of the winners of the Millennium Innovation Competition 2020. The competition was organized in partnership with the Ministry, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the financial support of the US Embassy. The winners were addressed by US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli congratulated the young people on the victory and wished them success in the future.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Dear students, inventors, congratulations on the victory! For me, as a scientist, it is doubly gratifying to see so many young people creating and establishing a new Georgia and being interested in science. The development of innovations and technologies in Georgia brings us even closer to the modern world and helps to strengthen the new generation of inventors, engineers, and startups. One of the priorities of the government and our ministry is the development of technology and science education.

I would like to thank our strategic partner, the United States of America, the US Embassy, ​​and personally the Ambassador - Her Excellency, Kelly Degnan, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation for supporting the Georgian education system, as well as for supporting the Millennium Innovation Competition.

The winning team in the Millennium Innovation Competition will travel to the United States shortly after the end of the pandemic to participate in the educational program of NASA Space University. The second and third place teams will take part in international science camps and will be awarded with various prizes. The winners were also awarded official gifts by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia.

The Millennium Innovation Competition has been organized by the Millennium Challenge Corporation and financially supported by the US Embassy since 2014. The competition is currently attended by more than 1,500 students and mainly serves to encourage young people to implement innovative ideas and projects in the field of science and technology (STEM). The teams participating in the competition will present projects in the following areas: space and aviation, robotics, mobile technologies and applications, environment, health, and nutrition.

The partner organizations of the competition are Kutaisi International University, San Diego State University in Georgia, Letterato Academy, and the Georgian National Museum.
