Nunu Mitskevichi, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with Beka Peradze, Head of the Labor Inspection Service, got acquainted with the measures taken to prevent the virus at Georgian National and Sokhumi Universities and received relevant information about the innovations introduced in universities.

Since March 1 until today, the Deputy Minister, together with the head of the Labor Inspection Service, visited a number of higher education institutions on a random basis. The Minister assessed the epidemiological situation in person at the State Conservatory, as well as at the State Medical University, Caucasus University and Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy. According to them, the universities meet all the sanitary-hygienic standards, and a safe educational environment is created in each of them.

Owing to the decision of the Academic Council, the study at Sokhumi University, where the health recommendations are fully complied with, is conducted in a fully distance format. As for the laboratory work, students are in a safe and sound environment.

Additionally, the National University (SEU), made a decision to continue the study in a hybrid model, which means teaching both in classrooms and remotely. Students and professors had the opportunity to choose which model they wanted to pursue the academic semester with.

Due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the educational process at the university is carried out in full compliance with all the rules and regulations. Students, academic and administrative personnel undergo thermal screening before entering the university, maintaining a safe distance, and attend lectures-seminars using a mandatory face mask.

As it is known, according to the decision of the Coordinating Council, the activities of the higher education institutions were restored in two gradual stages. From March 1, the institutions have the right to conduct clinical, practical, laboratory components and examinations in a non-distance format, whereas from March 15, they can resume the theoretical teaching in auditoriums. The choice at both stages is voluntary and the specific decision is made by the universities in consultation with the Ministry, individually.
