The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli visited the famous linguist and philologist, Damana Melikishvili and congratulated her on the Mother Language Day.
Damana Melikishvili is an eyewitness to the events of April 14, 1978. As a lecturer at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, she was a great supporter of the students involved in the protest movement.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli and Damana Melikishvili spoke about the role and importance of Tbilisi State University in granting the Georgian language an official state language status, and it was precisely this day that sparked the idea for the National Liberation Movement for Georgia’s independence.
Damana Melikishvili makes an important contribution to the study of Kartvelological issues, Georgian verbs and Georgian philosophical language. She is the author of important scientific papers and has received numerous honorary awards, including the Order of Merit and the David the Builder Award.
