Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Nodar Surguladze and Director of Education and Science Infrastructure Development Agency, Irakli Todua visited the renovated gym in Tbilisi Public School №45.
In the framework of the President’s National Mega-Program “Iakob Gogebashvili – Rehabilitation of Public Schools”, rehabilitative and construction works are being held in 317 public schools throughout the whole country.
108 schools will be renovated in Tbilisi in the scope of the project. Rehabilitation of the stadiums of 24 schools is already finished. Renovating of 67 gyms is underway. 5 of them are already finished.
Gym of Public School №45 is one of them. The gym that will be in compliance with modern standards will serve 721 schoolchildren.
New gym gives opportunity to hold the lessons in three types of sport – gymnastics, basketball and volleyball.
Refurbishing of sport infrastructure is being held in the schools where the sport environment did not exist or the infrastructure needed renovation. In the nearest future, the sport infrastructure will be rehabilitated in all public schools of Tbilisi.
By the announcement of Nodar Surguladze, refurbishing the gyms and open stadiums is especially important for replacing the physical fitness lessons with sports classes in all public schools from the new academic year.
The new project, initiated by the President will be launched in 2010-2011 academic years based on the changes in National Curriculum. The project that envisages integration of physical education and sports as well as development of healthy way of life will be implemented in all public schools of Georgia.
