During his speech before the members of the parliament in the minister's hour format, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, spoke about the issue of school meals. In this direction, the minister emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the Ministry and the United Nations Children's Fund and noted that the work process within the framework of the partnership is currently underway and very active.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "On the initiative of the Ministry and with the involvement of the United Nations Children's Fund, an interdepartmental group has started working, which will develop a specific plan regarding school meals and present it to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili.
Local capabilities, international best practices have been studied and active work is underway on the concept of school meals. Various food delivery models are considered with the involvement of food safety experts and other professionals taking into account the specifics of regions and districts across the country. The sectoral committees of the Parliament will also be actively involved in the mentioned process."
Within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the United Nations Children's Fund, work continues intensively in order to implement the school feeding program in public schools.
The document, which was signed by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli and the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Georgia, Ghasan Khalil, envisages taking concrete steps to promote the implementation of the school feeding program for students in Georgian schools.
