For the first time in Georgia, bilingual textbooks are published for non-Georgian school children. 35% of the material of these textbooks is published in Georgian. Manuals of history and geography of 7th, 8th,10th,11th and 12th forms are published in Armenian, Azerbaijanian and Russian languages. School children will be provided with these textbooks free of charge. Bilingual teaching will help non-Georgian school children to study the state language.
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini personally awarded the school children of Marneuli Public School #3 with the new textbooks.
By 2010-2011 academic years, MES will distribute 35,874 bilingual books of history and geography to non-Georgian school children (totally, 75,895 textbooks). 4th graders of non-Georgian schools and sectors will be provided with the textbooks Georgian – Second Language free of charge.
In the scope of Georgian Language Program, the Government allocated 600,000 GEL for the above mentioned initiative in 2010. The school children will receive textbooks in their schools before the beginning of the school year. These books will be kept in the school libraries and other non-Georgian school children will be able to use them in the future.
