National Curriculum and Assessment Center of MES finished working on the project of 2011-2016 National Curriculum. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini and Director of the Center, Natia Jokhadze held a presentation of the National Curriculum project at Radisson Blue Iveria.
New National Curriculum will be developed step by step. New Curriculum will be introduced in 2011-2012 school years at the first level (primary school: I-VI); in 2012-2013 academic years at the second level (VII-XII forms).
Structure of the Curriculum was changed; amendments were made in the subject programs. Following new subjects will be introduced: IT, Civil Defense and Safety; dance classes. Piloting of the new subject World Culture is commenced. The new subject will be developed in all schools from 2011. Teaching of the natural science subjects and English language is strengthened as well. List of the selective subjects is broadened and etc.
Representatives of the scientific field, higher educational and general educational institutions, psychologists and education experts were working on the project together with the experts of National Curriculum and Assessment Center. Subject matter groups, joint subject matter commissions and methodic groups were established. Around 150 persons were working in the different groups.
New National Curriculum is based on the education traditions of our country. Curriculum is designed to create the programs that will give the schoolchildren general education and skills that are needed in the modern era as the result of the right teaching.
