Tbilisi State Medical University celebrates its 80th anniversary. In the scope of the anniversary week, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini visited the Education Institution and took part in several events.
Diploma award ceremony was held for the Honorable Doctors. Foreign guests of the University were awarded with the medals as well. Video chronic Tbilisi State Medical University - Towards the Future with Traditions was presented.
Invited guests were able to get familiarized with the photos reflecting the history of the University. Paintings of the graduates were exhibited as well. All structures, academic personal of all generation, students and graduates were involved in the event.
By the initiative of Ivane Javakhishvili, Georgian University was established in 1918. The first Rector was Petre Melikishvili. Natural Sciences and Treatment faculties were opened in the same year. Higher Educational Institution had been operating as Tbilisi State Medical Institution from 1930. Since 1992, Educational Institution has been functioning as the University. Currently, following 5 faculties are offered: Faculty of Medicine, Stomatology, Pharmacy, Public Health, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Lectures are given in 4 Professional Programs: Nurse, Midwife, Pharmacy Assistant, Biomedical equipment technician.
Tbilisi State Medical University is the member of an International Association for Medical Education (AMEE) and World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). 371 professors, docents and assistants work at the University. 350 invited lecturers are involved in the academic process as well.
