Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Irine Kurdadze and Director of the National Curriculum and Assessment Center, Natia Jokhadze held a meeting with the teachers of Gldani-Nadzaladevi and Didube-Chughureti districts at Tbilisi Public School №9. The aim of the meeting was to introduce 2011-2016 National Curriculum to the teachers.
New National Curriculum is designed to give knowledge to the children, assist in developing abilities, values and opinions as well as analytical and logical thinking skills.
Invited experts – representatives of academicians and teachers worked on the new 2011-2016 National Curriculum along with the experts of the Center. In order to make learning/teaching sustainable, the Curriculum will not be changed for 5 years according to the decision of MES.
New National Curriculum will be developed step by step. It will be launched in 2011-2012 at the primary level (I-VI) and in 2012-2013 – basic and secondary levels (VII-XII).
Structure of the National Curriculum was changed. Amendments were made in the subject matter programs as well. Compulsory part – 60-80% will be envisaged in the content of each subject. New subjects were introduced, particularly, IT, Civil Defense and dance classes. Piloting of the new subject World Culture is commenced. Teaching of natural sciences and English language is strengthened, list of selection subjects was broadened as well and etc.
