Collaboration in the scientific-research direction between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the United States of America is entering a new phase. Therefore, parties actively cooperate in order to develop joint scientific projects.

In order to deepen relations, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs, Mr. Andrew C. Weber met the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Shashkini. Issues concerning efficient usage of scientific-research unique Central Reference Laboratory   (CRL) were discussed at the meeting.

CRL is the only laboratory in Transcaucasia and it was established with the financial support of the U.S. Government. Infectious disease detection, epidemiological surveillance and research will be carried out at the laboratory. The lab has strategic importance.

The main aim of the meeting at MES was to promote the educational capability of the CRL. The lab will closely cooperate with the universities and the students will be able to take practical lessons with the support of the high qualified staff.

Mr. Weber got interested in the programs that are implemented by MES for supporting scientists and conducting scientific researches. According to Mr. Weber, U.S. Government will still cooperate with Georgia in order to assist in the education reforms.
