Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini and Rector of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Khatia Dekanoidze held a summarizing briefing on the development of the Resource Officers’ Office.
Introducing of the Resource Officers’ Office is one of the successful projects, carried out by MES. Implementation of the project became necessary due to the increased violence at schools. The goal of the development of the Resource Officers’ Office is to prevent crime among the schoolchildren and create safe school environment.
According to the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Resource Officers will pass the permanent training from 2011 and psychologists will be actively involved in this process. In addition, Resource Officers will be distributed in the professional colleges. If the private schools wish, Resource Officers will enter these schools as well.
According to the researches and statistical data (Information Technology and Statistical Analytical Department of MES), school environment is advanced and facts of violence are decreased after launching Resource Officers’ activities, in particular:
By the announcement of Dimitri Shashkini, Resource Officers’ Office successfully carried out its activities in 2010. Resource Officers got actively involved in the school environment. They provide the school administration as well as the schoolchildren and teachers with necessary aid to solve the problems. Resource Officers in time abolished disagreements among the children and therefore, avoided serious violations”.
After the strict testing and psychological examination, Resource Officers passed training in the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Nowadays, they carry out their activities at the public schools of Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Poti, Gori, Zugdidi, Rustavi and Kvareli. Around 900 Resource Officers are being employed at the present time.
