A football league was formed at public schools to promote a healthy life style among schoolchildren. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini and Football Federation President Zviad Sichinava signed a memorandum on formation of the league. The event was attended by Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Lado Varzelashvili.
According to the memorandum, football championship will be held among public schools in Georgia in 2011. In July, 2011 a final match will be organized.
School football championship will improve schoolchildren’s skills in sports; it will also promote popularization of Georgian football.
Minister Dimitri Shashkini announced that organizing school championships in sports and creating school football leagues will encourage the schoolchildren to better reveal sport related resources.
Within the scope of the memorandum, Georgian Football Federation will retrain sports teachers according to UEFA and FIFA standards. The trained teachers will receive the certificates.
Football League formation at public schools and holding football championship was made possible after Ministry of Education and Science replaced physical culture lessons with sports classes in 2010. Up to 11 sports league was set up; schools championship are also held. As a result, schoolchildren have become more motivated to adopt a healthy life style.
